Bio: Tan Nazare (they/them) is an independent researcher in music theory based in California. Their research surrounds global pop and multimedia music, and other interests include Eastern aesthetics and semiotics. Tan has presented their research at AMS/SMT 2025, Mechademia 2023, CUNY GSIM 2023. Tan is also an elementary school music teacher at the Community School of Music and Arts and maintains a singing private studio. They hold a Master of Music in music theory from McGill University, a Postgraduate Certificate in Vocal Pedagogy from the University of Essex, and a Bachelor in Music from the University of Edinburgh, UK.
